Need help with an issue in regards of converting these Winmugen Plus screenpacks (who knows if solution is provided and it's fixed I'll release these screenpacks)

Question

Hi, so if you didn't know I do screenpack conversions now. I successfully converted 2-3 screenpacks yay :D but there are 4 I have issues with after converting them and apparently they were winmugen plus. I just want to know why is it so difficult to convert winmugen plus to 1.0 fully? like they actually are converted successfully to 1.0 yet when you go to the character select screen it's zoomed in.

Images of said screenpacks:

Before anyone asks:

  • Yes, it has the right fonts.
  • Yes, I did go to mugen.cfg on all of these to resize the resolutions (but to no avail)
  • Yes, the entire screenpacks works perfectly fine. even the stages are OK.

Only problem is the character screen being zoomed in. if someone can provide a fix for this, I'll publicly release these versions and who knows maybe even do a 1.1 version of these as well but that's if the situation can be fixed. 🙂

what you need to do is open up your system definition and under "info" you need to put in this command localcord = 640,480 then what you need to do is go back and open up the Sprite for that system and you need to resize the title screen that will fit 640x480 you don't need to do anything for the select screen only thing you need to do in the select screen is resize the SMALL portraits and BIG portraits

AND to do that you can actually can find it on the scale it's very AND ITS VERY simple to find just find big portraits player one AND PLAYER 2 AND ADD P1.portrait.scale = .5,.5 AND P2.portrait.scale = .5,.5

now for the title screen you have to take out the Sprites and resize them by using the calculator you have to go by times tables for example if you have a Sprite DIMENIONS that it says 50 X 50 you need to use the calculator and then double the time the times of that particular digit for example what is 50 X 2 = ?

when you're dealing with an outdated software and you trying to convert it to the latest version of Mugen 1.1 or 1.0 you have to upscale only the title screen and the first screen but the life bars and also the the game over if necessary but the select screen don't need no upscale because the Sprite itself is already is 640 by 480 and that's the reason why you having this difficulty so make sure you add the local cord inside the system definition

I want to give you my opinion and how I feel about your doing I think it's very Noble and it's as pretty cool but you need to stop this crap with the OLD MUGEN stuff AND nobody cares about outdated mugen stuff these days and we really want to focus on the latest screen packs for our Amusement especially when we're trying to collect good characters that we want to MORE SLOTS with new mugen content. and not outdate stuff that was back 2008 and we want have a really decent HD new screen pack for a collection we really don't like using outdated mugen stuff really don't.  I mean it's cool that you're learning how to understand mugen and very cool but come on dude enough with dupe we don't want. and that's good that sharing this but in my opinion we don't need outdated stuff we already have enough of that crap to be honest with you just being honest.

Thank you for this!

So I tried these steps and, I am a bit confused. I don't see p1.portrait.scale or p2.portrait.scale just portrait.scale (unless you mean I had to add it in myself)

I did add in localcord, and nothing happened? unless I am missing some steps? either way, is there a way you can show me this in video format? I am not really sure where in FF I have to open up the sprite and resize it. (I am still learning lol)

I am really happy to hear that my work is being noticed in a good light! BUT, unfortunately I can't stop with the old mugen stuff why? well it's simple. 1.1b is flawed, it depends too much on ram. and not many people have the device or really PC to run 1.1b things and that's who I make these for. I know from experience because I use to work on 1.1b mugen rosters, three were successful while the ones I tried to work on the past were failures. the only versions of mugen I don't have issues with are winmugen and 1.0 and yes that is true people want to work with new mugen content and that's great if I can get this fixed I'll convert screenpacks to 1.1 too

Will I work on the 1.1 stuff? maybe? maybe not. you need an actual gaming PC for 1.1b at this point. because I've went thru every possible solution with that version to no avail. and don't forget that incident I was working on a JUS mugen for Legacy 3500+ edition only for it to keep crashing (I was working on it on my steam deck BTW a GAMING handheld). even when the patch was applied and even when I edited everything in the config to get it working nothing worked.

So yes while, I can tell by your response you are tired of old mugen things, there are people who still do like these things and still do wish for people like me to continue to work on it. winmugen more than ever is booming especially within cheapie side of the mugen community, and 1.0 still has people's interest peeked and I know because I've worked on TONS of 1.0 mugens and they still get a lot of traction.

But if it makes you feel any better, I can start doing some 1.1 conversions too I don't entirely hate 1.1b (since, I actually don't only do 1.0 I do 1.1 as well especially since I do have people in nomi's server that wouldn't mind a 1.1 version of nomi's screenpack Obvilion.) sure sometimes I do seem like I do but really since it is a beta and it comes with many problems from my experience it's hard to like it nowadays because it's a beta for a reason it's not a complete version of mugen and trust me if someone can make it complete I'll definitely be using it more but for now that's not going to occur anytime soon in the meantime.
