The tournaments over already been a while. However you can join the Supar Dupar Tournament from India. I'm not sure if that event is going to happen though

Goku is from a very succesful franchise of which spanned across tons and tons of sequels. Goku is overpowered simply because he has to be. He has to grow in character. It's usually how it goes. First characters start out in a street level threat, then city level threat, then Earth, then Galaxy, then universe, so on. I don't watch but he started out in Earth right? Then he discovered his alien heritage and that's when he had to get stronger. There's more at risk than Earth. You can't tell me Dylan from down the street is gonna save the galaxy with a bat and skateboard from beings beyond our comprehension. Although that'd be pretty badass when I think about it.

But basically, growth is why he's powerful.
